Habit is a meaningful choice that we purposefully make at some point of our life and then stop thinking about it. But continue doing, every day, so that that choice becomes a habit. The habit is the one powerful thing that controls almost half of your daily actions. Our daily actions result in our life’s success. That’s the power of a habit.
The easiest example to understand habit is all about brushing our teeth. We would have learnt this habit while we are at 3 or 4 years old. But we follow it for lifetime. Over a period, we will not even remember the pattern in which we brush our teeth every morning. Our sub conscious mind takes care of the pattern of brushing our teeth and we will be watching TV or the roadside while brushing.
Developing good habits for college students are easier said than its done. It will be a big challenge. There will be some old habits you may always wanted to get rid of. For example. you may be spending lot of your time in the couch watching television. You wish to change it. But your daily routine that you have been practicing for years makes difficult to break this. So, its time you make such of your old habits harder. For example, you can move the couch to a different location and have only a chair in front of the TV. Alternatively, do not recharge your television for sometime so that you get to a new routine. Our lives could be easier and better productive get rid of so called bad habits and if we can create new good habits.
You may be already having lots of good habits. But its time to relook into those habits as you enter the college. Its time to develop some new habits for your college success. You may need to create a new routine and stick to it, so that will turn into good habits. Those habits in college can be related to your academic performance, career goals, health, or happiness. Creating good habits in these areas will set you well for success, in whichever way you define it.
As a college student you must create a new routine for your day. Starting from your early morning routine until you sleep , you must create a new routine. Create routines around your study habit will be highly important. The time that you will do self-study, group learning, online learning, doing your assignments, etc., will go part of your daily routine. The time you will spend on reading books outside of your curriculum, your time in library and social media time will also be part of your routine. Remember to create routines around your health including your exercising time, drinking water, having healthy food, playing your sport, getting right sleep etc., which will also be essential for life. The most important thing is that you must make a schedule of this routine and stick to it, so that it becomes into powerful habits.
You can make yourself accountable to make it happen. You can do this by adding a partner to every of you habit. For example, you can make a group of friends at college who will together spend an hour in college library every day. You can update your daily routine completion in your social media, so that you are motivated to stick to it.
To create a lasting change for life in a long term, we need to work on powerful habits. College is the best time to start practicing new habits, which will become powerful habits not just of college success, also for the life success.
